A golden-hour marina view, fresh cocktails, and food that lives up to the vibe.
St. Pete has been on a bit of a restaurant opening streak lately.
Don’t get me wrong – I love a beautiful new place to visit with friends or for date night.. Give me a vibey dining room, an exciting cocktail list, and some yummy apps and I’m happy. But… if we’re being honest, there have been more than a few places where the ambience and cocktails are doing most of the heavy lifting, while the food sort of…politely participates.
So when a place opens that nails all three: design, drinks, and food, it deserves a little celebration (and an immediate reservation!)

Enter: LUMA.
Located inside SkyBeach Resort, overlooking the marina, LUMA feels like a Mediterranean seaside lounge that somehow landed perfectly in St. Pete. The name comes from lumen, meaning light, and the whole restaurant leans into that idea. Given I joke about being solar powered since I love the sunshine so much, the ambiance was an immediate yes from me.
The vibe is polished but relaxed. Elevated, but not trying too hard.
Think warm tones, art-deco details and breezy coastal energy that makes you feel like drinks may taste best wearing linen.
The best part?
This is absolutely a full dinner destination, not just a “let’s get cocktails and split an app” situation.
The Cocktails
Kicking off my first of sure to be many visits, we started with cocktails and right away you can tell the cocktail program is having fun.

The Thyme & Tide is their Mediterranean spin on an Aperol spritz… prosecco, Aperol, mastika, thyme, and orange. It’s refreshing, herbaceous, and a little more interesting than the usual spritz lineup.

Then there was the Golden Empress with Empress gin, Moroccan mint tea, lemon, and honey. I had never had a cocktail that used mint tea before and it was one of those drinks where you immediately start wondering why more places aren’t doing this.

My personal favorite of the night was the Santa Sol: cristalino tequila, Ancho Reyes, lime, hibiscus syrup, and a Tajín rim. Slightly smoky, a little spicy, perfectly balanced. Sipping this cocktail made me jealous of my future self visiting after a full day in the sun.
The Food
Here’s the thing that surprised me most about LUMA…
Every single dish we tried was genuinely excellent.
We started with grilled naan brushed with garlic oil and za’atar, which we paired with the whipped burrata topped with squash and pomegranate relish. Creamy, bright, and the perfect kind of starter that makes everyone at the table immediately happy – the girls love bread and cheese.

But the surprise star of the table?
The Watermelon + Feta salad.
Watermelon, arugula, Aleppo pepper, citrus vinaigrette… it sounds simple, but it was so good. Equally refreshing and salty, this was the dish we could not stop talking about.
Next came the Moroccan spiced eggplant with chickpea tomato ragù and olive relish — slow roasted, deeply flavorful, and one of those dishes that feels both comforting and elevated.
Then came the main event: the Spiced Salmon Kebab with harissa salmon, blistered tomatoes, salmoriglio, and Moroccan couscous. I’m not exaggerating when I say this may have been the best salmon we’ve ever had. Perfectly cooked, deeply flavorful, and balanced with bright herbs and acidity.

For dessert we shared a decatant crème brûlée and coffee… (more on the coffee later)
The Details (That Make a Place Memorable)
One of the things I loved most about Luma was how thoughtful the entire experience felt.
Each dish arrived on a different style of plate, which made every course feel like its own little moment. It added this subtle sense of discovery throughout the meal that made the night feel a bit more special.
Here’s where the detail really got me.
When we ordered a cup of coffee to close out the dinner experience… the coffee came with cream — totally normal — except the cream had been perfectly steamed so it didn’t cool the coffee down. It’s such a small thing, but it showed a level of thoughtfulness you don’t see very often.

Service was fantastic all around too: warm, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu.
As we got the check and reflected on the experience, we were already planning on when to come back next.
“It’s like THE perfect place to go with our girlfriends after a day in the sun” I said as I scanned their website for a reservation.
“Kristina – they have a DJ Fridays and Saturdays from 8PM-11PM.” Done and done.
The Rooftop Collective Take
Luma feels like the kind of restaurant St. Pete has been ready for. It’s beautiful. The cocktails are creative. But most importantly, the food absolutely lives up to the setting.
After a few years of restaurants where the vibes occasionally outshine the kitchen… that’s refreshing.
So if you’re planning a night out, here’s my recommendation:
Bring a couple friends, order dishes to share, get the Santa Sol, and absolutely don’t skip the Watermelon Salad.
Golden hour optional.
But highly encouraged.
See you there,
G
